Young men who represent the next generation to have their civil rights violated, if they speak out NOW. Read the proposed solutions, create additional solutions and attend the next Town Hall Meeting. Community and Law Enforcement, Thank you, DA Craig Watkins, Chief Brown, Sheriff Valdez and Community for this window of opportunity. The Town Hall Meeting exposed the mutual deep-rooted emotions of frustration, anger pain, and the skeptical hopes of everyone. Family Members Concerns and Grievances involving Civil Rights. The communication is not transparent when there is an officer involved shooting. -There is lack of urgency to provide any information to the family. -In cases that have video footage, the family is delayed or denied viewing the footage. -There is a lack of officer convictions. Where civil rights violations are suspected. Proposed Solutions Schedule consistent Town Hall Meeting that allows citizens to outline the details of their civil rights violations. Use that information to analyze frequency of these occurrences in cases suspected of Civil Rights violations. This should be one of the responsibilities of the Civil Rights Unit. This creates a foundation of transparency and accountability for all parties. Proposed Solutions and Request involving Civil Rights -The Community will research and educate themselves and others on their civil rights. There will be a strong focus to educate individuals that are more likely to experience civil rights violations. -The Civil Rights Unit should be directed by an independent Investigator. This will eliminate potential bias due to prior affiliation. This will establish a foundation that the Civil Rights Unit sole purpose will be to protect citizens civil rights. -The Civil Rights Unit will clearly define, communicate and enforce the separation between necessary force and excessive force. Examples such as, a suspect in any circumstances cannot be punched or kicked. Officers cannot use choke holds. Officers cannot apprehend a citizen without plausible cause or the suspicion of committing a crime. These such violations are grounds for automatic termination. - Community Organizations and the Civil Rights Unit will work diligently together to maintain transparent communication and enforcement. -Upgrade the next order of body cameras to body cameras with audio. This upgrade is an effective way to create another layer of transparency. -With the return of the tasers to the department, implement the policy requiring the use of a tasers first not a gun. -The Civil Rights Unit will transparently and swiftly enforce consequences for civil rights violations. Suggestions for Next Town Hall Meeting -Use technology and public service announcements to inform the community of the meeting daily 5 days before Town Hall Meeting. -The meeting should be 2 hours to provide adequate time for questions and concerns. -Set a realistic time such as 4 minutes for each question to be asked and answered. -The Conductor should be able to maintain control. A person at each microphone will also maintain order. Solutions are actions that are spoken, written, read, broadcast and streamed that create a reaction that becomes proactive.
