This is why the Footbridge is called the footbridge. It was first built in 1848 as a crossing for students to get to Riverside School which was on the west side of the river. Eventually, the log school was replaced with a stone one which still stands today (as a residence). My great grandmother used to cross the footbridge to go to school and would talk about the children jumping up and down to make the bridge sway. This is looking east.
