This is yet another example of how old school politically connected lobbyists have protected shaky industries at the expense of consumers. For decades Anchorages taxi cab industry has enjoyed political protection while theyve failed to adapt to changing consumer trends. In Anchorage their equipment is shoddy, their service is spotty, all while they control a monopoly of 190 permits. This is no different than when I was in the legislature and the liquor industry tried to stop HB152 that eventually allowed Mooses Tooth to expand their local brewing capacity. Same protectionism from the dinosaurs of the industry, at the expense of consumers that want a better product.
