This made me think. In the South, back in the Fifties when I was a kid in North Carolina, the wealthy and the poor dressed and acted a lot a like. It was important to be a good ole boy, and many of the wealthy didnt separate themselves from anyone else. This made every town a quagmire for businessmen coming from out of town. They would go into a general store, ask the local folk hanging around the stove playing checkers and spitting into cans, Who owns that property over by the freeway? The response would come from some old guy in coveralls, What ya wanna know for? That guy was the owner of most of the acreage in the county. Snap judgments can be very costly.
