This may be an age thing, or a spiritual thing. Today I went to the funeral of a long time friend. We knew each other for 47 years although we were far apart for many years. When he moved back to Ft. Wayne in 2012 (I did in 2009) we got together at starbucks for coffee and talked about high school. Last summer we got together again at Lake James and drank coffee. We talked about where God had led each of us. God is a good God and he blessed us both with wonderful families. Although he was separated from his wife, he told me how much he loved her and how faithful she had been through trying times. Today at the funeral I saw some other former classmates. Anah, Al, Cindy, Sandy and Sue it was such a blessing to see you. Anah is my longest friend (close to 60 years) Driving to Angola and back I thought about how good God has been to me and blessed me, partly with these good friends and so many, many more. I have nothing but fond memories of them. I know pretty sickenly syrupy right? Come on Max, buck up, dont be so sentimental, mushy and soft!! Just a few minutes ago I was watching a infomercial about Mercy Ships. It shows so many of the kids and parents in wretchedly poor places who suffer so much. About 10 minutes in, I had to leave the room and go to my office to cry. Couldnt stand to see any more. This is why I AM GOING BACK INTO MISSION WORK. I love my country; we are so blessed. We have friends, money, a great life but really dont appreciate how good God is or how he has blessed us. I cannot stand by and simply watch. GOD PLEASE, BREAK MY HEART WITH WHAT BREAKS YOURS. AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.
