Furthermore, as was anticipated and viewed against the backdrop of rising inflation and a still fragile economy, the Monetary Policy Committee took the welcome decision to announce that the repo rate would remain stable at historically a low level. In addition, the prolonged economic recession caused house sales to slow and as a result less new homes to be built during that time and this has now created pent-up demand for homes and we are seeing an increasing take-up of available stock - both in terms of new and existing homes. The residential developments market is also showing signs of increased take-up, as seen at Arabella Estate near Hermanus and with construction about to commence at an affordably priced development, ‘South Breeze’, on the Cape’s False Bay coastline.
