This morning I was driving to work along my usual route: 99 North, 9th street exit and what I saw next was a very sad, lonely sight in front of a closed store front. Some yellow tape, two sheriff cars, one coroner van, a body with a white sheet covering a man (presumably) with the shoes visible. What made this really sad was just that scene and my thoughts about the person under the sheet. Did anyone care he/she was gone? Had I seen this person walking along the sidewalk (on my way to and from work)? Did he/she die from an overdose alone on that sidewalk? There were no flashing lights (no emergency), no ambulance, no fire engines. Someone died alone on the sidewalk.
