This morning former House Speaker Bobby Harrell pled guilty to six - TopicsExpress

This morning former House Speaker Bobby Harrell pled guilty to six counts of misuse of campaign funds and resigned his office. While today marks a positive step toward ridding our State House of corrupt politicians there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done to reform our ethics laws so they hold politicians accountable. Unfortunately, my opponent, Kirkman Finlay, has worked in the wrong direction on this issue, consistently supporting Bobby Harrell even with the widely publicized tales of his ethical misconduct. Kirkman introduced and was the lone sponsor of legislation to provide amnesty to politicians, like Harrell, who misspend their campaign money as long as they repay it within 30 days. He then sponsored two bills to attempt to remove the Attorney General from Harrell’s investigation. To truly eradicate corruption we must push forward and fight for strong ethics laws that will restore the public trust and hold politicians accountable. I promise I will never allow ambition or political considerations to distract me from this worthy fight. thestate/2014/10/23/3763350_from-powerful-official-to-government.html?sp=/99/205/&rh=1
