This morning like many other around the country I set my alarm on - TopicsExpress

This morning like many other around the country I set my alarm on a Saturday morning not to go fishing but to watch the live broadcast of the 2014 Bass Pro Shops Central Open weigh in at the Arkansas River - Muskogee, Oklahoma. One of our own Carl Jocumsen has been working his heart out to qualify for the Bassmaster Elites in the USA by finishing in the top 5 Angler of the year. Going into this event Carl was sitting in 4th position of the AOY, a position he has slaved at maintaining for the season. It was a nail biting finish with the point scores very close until the end and with some local competitors weighing in some big bags. Watching Carl on the stage as he put his bag on the scale I am sure that all my neighbours were awake also as the cheers from my lounge room bellowed out through the street. We are still waiting for the official scores but going on the preliminary rudimentary math from those who know a lot more about it than me – Ian Barra Miller has him sitting in 3rd overall in the AOY points score meaning our Carl has qualified for the Bass Master Elite. Carl has been dreaming of this opportunity for a long time now and after 3 years of working his arse off, his dream has become a reality. All of us back home in Australia are very proud of your achievement mate and I am sure there will be plenty more early mornings setting up to watch the Elite Weigh in’s for another 12 months The measure of one’s success in life is not on how many millions you have in the bank, your job your house or the car you drive, rather it is measured by the effect you have on people around you. The effect you have had on Australian anglers is that you make us proud to be aussie anglers – Carl this makes you one of the most successful people I know.
