This mornings swarm update... Local bee keeper Steve, last - TopicsExpress

This mornings swarm update... Local bee keeper Steve, last nights bringer of the skep, returned bright and early to relocate the swarm. Steve set up a ramp in front of the one empty top bar hive we have, then he carried the skep, in which the bees had spent the night, over to the hive. He emptied the skep onto the ramp because he likes watching the bees make their own way in, rather than emptying them straight into the hive. Estimated number of bees about 8,000. At first the bees clustered to the side of the hive entrance but eventually the queen must have gone in as the whole swarm disappeared inside. There are a few stragglers still buzzing about, a bit confused about whether they live on a post or in this new hive or in the skep but hopefully the homing scent being released by the colony will help them find their way home too. Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed the bees like this hive and dont decide to swarm again and go off to look for somewhere else to live. A cold wet day would have helped with this as it would have encouraged them to stay inside but its looking bright and sunny at the mo so well be keeping an eye on them.
