This news story may not seem at first glance to be railway-related, but the Lough Swilly bus service is, or was, a unique survivor of our railway history. Most railway companies had feeder bus services before nationalisation, and the narrow gauge Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway was no exception. Its bus and rail services escaped nationalisation and when the company decided to close its narrow gauge lines it survived as an entity through its bus services.
