This past Monday, GDA had to post EMERGENCY plea and announced to hold off any intakes from the COUNTY for our little CITY pound, because, WE DID NOT HAVE ANY OPEN KENNEL. Period. Whoever knows us definitely should know us by now that GDA never said just NO to GONZALES COUNTY dogs, even though we do NOT have any obligation to take them over, because again, WE ARE CITY POUND, NOT CITY/COUNTY POUND. We hate to repeat ourselves about this, but OUR PRIORITY STAY WITH DOGS FROM THE CITY OF GONZALES, and thats what this facility for and thats the contract from the City of Gonzales. About dogs from the Gonzales County, GDA will intake and take care of, since NO OTHER dog rescues here in our county, BUT itll be ON THE BASIS OF SPACE AVAILABLE at our little pound. PLEASE understand that we just cannot fill out our little CITY pound with COUNTY dogs. Thats just IT! Well put you on our waiting list and will help you out as soon as space open!! Thats the way we have been rolling! ** PLEASE note that we just are NOT allowed to take over ANY OTHER COUNTYS dogs, simply because Gonzales should NOT be a dumping ground for dogs from all over Texas....We wish we could do more to help yall, but please please understand about this. We really cannot jeopardize our status. ************************************************************** This past Monday, well, actually started from late Sunday evening, our Director started to receive a NUMEROUS phone calls from the visitors at the Palmetto State Park in Gonzales County. Obviously, somebody DUMPED 3 large dogs at the park. At that point, all we could tell those visitors were Were tiny CITY pound and its FULL. We just cannot intake any dogs from the County right away :( HOWEVER, we did ask those people to take picture of those dogs that we could post on our FB. and maybe, really MAYBE, some good folks would step up and give at least one a forever home( SO they did NOT need to come to our shelter). HOWEVER, NOBODY want to do that: ALL visitors just want GDA to take over those three dogs IMMEDIATELY... ugh! Probably those folks had NO IDEA that we couldnt take over those immediately, because were VERY FEW NO KILL POUND( our annual saving rate is OVER 90%) in the area. When were FULL, and when we said that, we meant that! And we do NOT risk our GOOD dogs life to save others especially theyre under OK situation. These visitors are probably all animal lovers, and would like to save these three, BUT adding these three to our pound when there were absolutely ZERO SPACE means You might thought you saved these three, but at the same time, YOU PUT SAME NUMBER( THREE) GDA DOGS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK OF EUTHANASIA!!! In the meantime, weve been working with the Park officials, and BOTH GDA and THE PARK were trying to save these three: We asked the park to hold one more week, because we just had some adoption pending, and very likely we could make some kennel open by this weekend: SO, We can intake these, WITHOUT KILLING ANY OF GOOD GDA dogs! The park side understood and very very supportive. GDA even offered for food donation until they get here, and thats the plan between GDA and the Palmetto Park. Very special Thanks to Ms. Lory, one of WONDERFUL park staff!!! HOWEVER, just the next day we post pleas, and after all agreement between GDA and the park, two visitors simply picked all up, without notifying anything to the park side, and brought them in :( The staff had no choice but took over because.... These folks from outside of town MEANT WELL, you know.... But we seriously wanted to cry.... There was no room, and THERE WERE NO ROOM! That day, we even had to put one big dog in our SUPER emergency place: our BATHROOM for overnight...lol! well, it wasnt that much funny at that moment, though :) The park side was surprised about those visitors action, and very apologetic to GDA, though, at that moment, we were doomed. BUT again and again, EVERYTIME, we mean, every single time, whenever GDA needs extra support, we always get one. This time, God sent us a couple of wonderful families to us, and made sure GDA did NOT need to make a room by any unnecessary killing! Again, God is great, and we made it!!! AGAIN!!! We named these sweet bunch( from the left) Morgan, Marissa and Marvin! Theyre Lab/ Hound cross, probably, and theyre so sweet! They received all initial vaccinations. Well keep yall posted more about these sweet M-litter! Please stay tuned :)
