This past school year, I was asked for the second time in my career to write a letter of recommendation to the Massachusettes Institute of Technology. I wrote it knowing full well that the student deserved to be there more than anything. I spent days writing, editing, and rewriting this letter. It was my personal opinion (that I have yet to share with anyone) that if she couldnt get into MIT, I failed as an educator. It became my mission to make sure this happened for her. A few months later, she emailed me with excitement about her acceptance, and I received multiple confirmations - including a letter from MIT. What she doesnt realize is how much of an impact she had on me - shes an amazing person in so many ways. It was a true honor to work with her for the four years she spent here at Oakland Mills. I recently received another letter from MIT noting that she mentioned me as a major factor in her life. As mentioned at the bottom of the letter, All of society benefits from the wonderful work you do. While even I think thats a bit exaggerated, having concrete success story examples really helps reinforce my decision to go into the teaching profession. And I am eternally grateful for all of the amazing students that I have had a chance to know. Thank you.
