This past week Quetzal Flores and Martha Gonzalez attended the classroom of artivista (poet, singer of In Lak Ech) Cristina Gorocica in Boyle Heights, California. Cica used her creativity and the Quetzal song Estoy Aqui to teach a lesson that incorporated history of Boyle Heights, critique on government, Captialism, Poverty, the five senses, and Chicana latina pride! We played the songs and listened to their own version of the lyrics and poems! It turned out to be one of the most inspiring classroom visits we have ever had. We can not show pictures of the kids, but suffice it to say they were gorgeous beings. I am proud to know that the future of our community is in their hands! Thank you Cica for inviting us, for being who you are, and for using your creative sense to teach the beauty of our community!
