This past week we purchased some orchard grass hay at our local hay auction. It looks great - nice green second cuttings. It does not smell of mold, hasnt been wet, isnt stemmy at all, put away after we bought it. The alpacas are not eating much of it though. Since yesterday our girls have barely touched it and the boys ate some from one of the two containers from which we feed them. We cannot find anything wrong with this hay! Why would none of them be eating it? We give them an alpaca grain mix in the evening, but no more or less than usual. They have fresh water. The ground still has snow and ice on it so theyre not eating grass. It was in the 40s today but had been very cold here last week (in Eastern OH). Any ideas?
