This past weekend our AGC artistic athletes saw their first action in Edmonton at the Gym Power Invitational. Our young athletes did very well with many of our veteran gymnasts leading the way. Our girls took to the floor first with many gymnasts competing in a new level this season. In the Provincial 1 category, Danika Cote finished the competition in 8th place all-around. The next level, Provincial 2, our young athlete Zoey Andersen-Samaska placed 5th on bars with a wonderful routine. Our Provincial 3 athletes won some medals as Malina Jamieson earned a silver medal on bars and a 4th place all-around victory. Teammate Mackenzie Lew had a great day and finished 5th all-around in her age category. Our Provincial 4 athlete, Haley Mucz, competed a tsuk vault for the first time and nailed it! She took 5th place on this event. We had two athletes compete in the Pre-Novice Aspire category. Sara Hakes won a silver medal for her wonderful floor routine while teammate Brookyln Olsen earned a silver medal for her bar routine. Our Pre-Novice Elite athlete, Abby Hilton, competed beautifully in her first competition at this level. Abby took home a silver medal on the bars and vault, and a bronze medal on the floor and in the all-around. Our boys followed in the girls’ wake earning many medals for themselves. In the Provincial 1 category, Chris Robson earned a gold medal for his perfect mushroom routine. Our Provincial 2 boys performed very well earning a 3rd place team victory for AGC! Josh Langlois led the way with a silver medal on high bar and a 5th place all-around finish. Teammate Tyler Steeves was right behind him with a 5th place finish on high bar. Austin Brooks earned some hardware with a bronze medal for his strong rings routine. Our Provincial 3 athletes performed at top peak with Cameron Roberts near the top with a 2nd place all-around finish. Cameron also earned silver medals on the floor, and high bar and another bronze medal for his rings routine. Eli Buchannan won a bronze medal on the parallel bars leaving teammate Brendan Ng to collect 3 gold medals on vault, parallel bars, and high bar. Great work to all our competing athletes and we look forward to a great 2015 season! Nadov Simenauer AGC Executive Director
