This post is my thoughts and opinions only. Apparently there was some confusion as to why the band kids left after halftime last night. Our Dickson band kids not only play for the football games, but they also compete in marching competitions during football season. Almost every Saturday since September, they have been competing in some sort of competition. For most of these, it requires they get up very early on Saturday. Also, our one and only band director, also serves as their bus driver. Our band director did receive prior approval to leave last nights game early. The reason is that some of our band kids were competing in All District and All State Competitions, which required that they leave the school very early this morning. My daughter happened to be one of those students. If we had stayed for the entire game, our band director would not have made it home till very very late. He also has to wait until every single kid is picked up from the band hall before he can leave. I dont know about you guys, but I want the driver of my child to be well rested. I am sorry that some took this the wrong way, but this competition today is something that will go on their college applications, so yes it was very important for them to get back. Marlow is pretty far away, so if the game had been here or close by, we would not have left early. Please dont give our kiddos a hard time about this. They work really hard and we are there to support our Dickson Comet football team!!! Heck, you can probably hear me jumping and yelling every football game for our football guys! They are a great bunch of kids! Oh and by the way our band kids made it to the auditions safely this morning! Also, one made All State, one made alternate and my daughter made All District. Thank you Mr. Baird for making the wise choice to get these kids home and yourself to get some rest before leaving at the crack of dawn this morning. Melinda Cox
