This post is two-fold. If feel the need to post this because I read a blog post today about churches not standing in the gap for adoptive families-I also want to share a blessing I witnessed today. Cypress Baptist was a critical, instrumental element in making our adoption possible. We love our church family! Not only have we had crazy generous financial donations from anonymous church members...we have had truckloads- I. Mean. Truck. Loads of donations for our numerous fundraiser yard sales. We also were blessed with a stocked pantry and friends who cleaned our home when we were gone to pick up our children in Ethiopia. We had a welcome party of close friends in our driveway when we arrived at dark after a four hour drive from the airport. We have been ABUNDANTLY blessed with bags of hand-me-downs ..I mean ABUNDANTLY. It really is overwhelming having to clothe a 10 year old girl and 12 year old boy starting with nothing....it started with an adoption shower held for me by Kelley Purvis Sanguinetti before we brought the kids home. At that point all I had purchased for them was underclothes. We received handmade quilts, the first new shoes our kids have ever owned...and clothing in their correct sizes. If you know an adoptive family in your church-PLEASE consider throwing them a shower. I cant describe how much of a blessing it was. Since then, our church family and others have continued to be so crazily generous. Our kids think our dining room table exists to dump bags of clothing on to and sort between girl and boy. Finally. just a little nugget of reality today I thought Id share...while I am marveling over the fact that someone would hand-me-down a pair of little girl Miss Me girls jeans that they could sell used on eBay for 50 bucks...my kids are happily dancing around with old Houston Zoo and Alaska souvenir shirts that are two sizes too small. You see-two of their dear friends who lived in their orphanage with them in Ethiopia have moved to Houston and Alaska. Reality. Check. Man-it gets me every time.
