This post of gratitude is a long time coming, though I have carried the sentiments within me 2 1/2 years now . . . thank you to everyone who touched my familys life the past years amidst periods of transition and challenge. Thank you to the single mothers of St. Vincents who contributed their precious time and efforts in attending a build day. Thank you to Maria Villarreal, Veronica Villarreal and Alex Salazar for coming to paint and perform other labor tasks. Thank you to my sons father, Marisa Cousins, and Veronica for watching my sons while I finished my 250 sweat equity hours on site and attended financial management courses and monthly partner meetings. Thank you to Jean Stultz, who first made me aware of the opportunity, and later came to work on site with Dave Moore. And a tremendous thank you to Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County and their driven, philanthropic staff, for selecting me as a homeowner of a beautiful new townhome in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Thank you for enabling me to establish a belonging in a physical sense for my sons. To me, home is a place just as present in the mind and psyche as the physical abode surrounding our bodies, and I am intent on defining the space with beauty and care ~ to promote play, creativity, happiness, peace and wellbeing. Habitat, I humbly thank you, and celebrate your efforts to ending the cycle of poverty and creating affordable housing across the globe. I am committed to partnering with you for a lifetime.
