This project started in March 2013. Much work is already done and some still ongoing: a three month camera trap research, literature study, surveys etc. At the moment we are a bit stuck due to car problems (if you know of anybody that could sponsor us with a vehicle, please let us know!) But once we have a car, we are ready to go on to the next step of this project: predator interaction. With the help of two San people (Bushman) it is the intention to find and interpret tracks (also called spoor) of leopards, cheetahs, caracals and black-backed jackals. The GPS location of all the recorded predator behaviour will also be noted on a Cybertracker device. From the track we can tell where each animal moved and how far it moved in a single 24 hour period. Over a period of time, these data will show us the home ranges, habitat preferences, interactions with other predators, how they spend their time otherwise, and prey preferences of the main predators on a single farm in North-central Namibia. Thanks again for all your likes and comments, we really appreciate it! We will keep you updated, and if there are any questions, please feel free to ask.
