This should be one of our biggest weekends ever. Mad Dog Mcrea on - TopicsExpress

This should be one of our biggest weekends ever. Mad Dog Mcrea on Friday and Martha on Saturday. Here a review from a friend of ours that out her on in Glastonbury last night: A beautiful evening at Martha Tilston in Glastonbury Assembly Rooms last night. Beginning with one of my many favourites, Survival Guide, it is always a perfect and classic opening song. A less lavish stage set than last year but effective, with a miniature lighthouse shining its beam onto a projector screen behind the band, displaying shadowy moving images to give the impression that the performers were sailing as they played. Green and red stage lighting added nicely to the atmosphere. Martha, always stunning, her songs both political and traditional, included the audience in choruses to great enjoyment. I also highly appreciated her talented backing musicians who are always friendly and smiley off-stage too. In particular last night, the bass guitar player caught my attention for excellent timing and those cool deep bass rhythms. I enjoy the anecdotes between songs too, being reminded earlier yesterday afternoon of last years bittersweet-yet-ultimately-empowered story of Marthas meeting with Simon Cowell - a moment of temptation to join another world - but coming to her senses with rather a shock; and this time she captured a gentle sense of how lovely it must have been to have grown up in a family immersed in the magical folk songs and stories that were sung and recited to her from being a tiny child. If you missed them they are performing this Saturday at St Laurence Church in Stroud, and then Brighton on the 6th and London on the 13th, among other places. Following Marthas stunning performance at this years Bristol Folk Festival, Steve Tilston will be performing as part of the amazing line-up at this coming May.
