This song could have been written right in front of dick cheney, bill oreilly, sean hannity or any chicken hawk for that matter. It was written in 1971 by Eric Bogle and was popularized by the likes of Liam Clancy and the Dubliners just to name a few. Unlike many anti foxnews i mean anti war songs it hit hard in peaks in valleys. The Scottish landscape must of had a part but thats war. You name it, you name em...they dont come back the same if they ever come back at all. They pin medals on em and tell them how great they were but inside they dont feel that way because for a long long time now wars have been fabricated perhaps since the dawn of time but of late the techniques are quite devious. Its rather outrageous that if foxnews isnt playing a catheter commercial or an invest in gold and silver theyre playing a charity for those who got their limbs blown off in vain. Man should never fight for those who would never go themselves. Man should not celebrate the pilot who drops bombs on peoples heads or the he who works the artillery and later wonders what he just did after he sees what he has done. Defense of country is one thing but wars fought pre-emptively or based upon imaginary information should never be fought. People will make excuses and talk as though war has ever changed and slap on labels when a soldier returns and he cant cope but its always been that way and monsters are created when men are forced to fight immoral battles.
