This song plays on the perennial mystique of the bull fight which is rich with symbolism. If there is any relationship to be viewed here, as between men and women, it mingles with perennial concerns and archaic myths. A bull seldom ever kills a matador and the matador is never the only fighter of the bull. It is a ritual killing more than a fight, perpetrated by many men. Except with Alt-J a symbolic reversal is put into play and the bull speaks like the matador and the bull makes the kill (esocada). In union of flesh and sword (or horns) the bull mirrors the matador, and one sees in the other a fierce desire of ones own nature. To die at the hands of the bull is submission to the domain of nature, which forms a completion, a metaphorical union of the mind and spirit (natural impulse). Getting high before you go is taking the risk of entering the ring of your desire to dance with death (take risks) and tempt love and life.- Anonymous
