This song was posted by a non serious member in the fest yesterday. In fact he went on posting without any regards for rules of the fest. So I consider thst he is out of the fest. I am therefore posting this song even at the risk of getting nrgative points. I had gathered some information about the song whike I was researching for the fest and I want to shjare it with the members of this elite group. Hence the Post even at the risk of a few minus points. Hindi Flavour Songs Fest. Day 2 Song No 6 Babul Mora Naihar Chooto hi jae. Street Singer (1938). To end this fest I pay tributes to Shri Kundan Lal Saigal. When one is talking of Hindi flavour songs, can one forget Shri Kundan Lal Saigal who sang a no of Raga based Hind Flavour Songs? The most popular among them being this excellent Thumri composed in Raag Bhairvi. The original song was penned by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the 19th-century Nawab of Awadh as a lament when he was exiled from his beloved Lucknow by the British Raj. A lament or lamentation is a passionate expression of grief, often in music, poetry, or song form. The grief is most often born of regret, or mourning. The nawab uses the metaphor of bidaai of a bride from her fathers (babul) home, and his own banishment from his beloved Lucknow, to far away Calcutta, while he spent the rest of his years. It was adapted in the film Street Singer wherein Shri Kundan Lal Saigal sang this song composed by Raj Chand Boral for the film. Shri KL Saigal sang it so well that it instantly became very popular. The song has been rendered by many popular singers, notable ones being Pandit Bhim Sain Joshi, Kishori Amonkar and the husband wife duo of Late Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh. The Jagjit Singh Chitra Singh song was adapted in the film Avishkar (1973). The music for this version was composed by Kanu Roy. As they say, the original is original. All those who have attemted this song have had a nasal touch to their voice a la Shri KL Saigal. I have posted clips of the attempts by other singers in the comments. Listen to the song with your eyes closed and imagine Shri KL Saigal singing it and As they say in Hindi Aap kho jaaenge.
