This stiiiiings. I need to work on this. Dr. Voddie Baucham, 5 minute clip, on Biblical manhood: The Modern American Church will not tolerate Biblical maturity in men. We will not allow anything above mediocrity. If you have a young man in your church who is reading Church history, theology, and hes reading his Bible, he has a passion for the things of God and for the people of God, people will look at that man and say God must be calling you to preach. But what we oughta say is That just means youre a Christian. But what the church says is you need to get away from us because we will not tolerate your passion, because you make me feel bad about my own mediocre pursuits. The only place where a man can be a Christian for 20-30 years and yet still know nothing about what it means to be a Christian. We accept that no where else. If a man has been a brick layer for 20 years, and he still really knows nothing about laying bricks, we call that impossible. But in the Church, if a man has been a Christian for 20 years and still really knows nothing about being a Christian or Bibliology or Church History or theology, we say thats okay, and even glorify it. We say Im a 20 year old baby! And Im PROUD of it! I proudly declare that I know nothing! And we cannot, and will not, tolerate anyone who has more passion than us. Scripture gives us two types of sanctification: Definitive, and progressive. If we are basically the same person as we were 30, 20, and even 10 years ago, Scripture is clear that were not a Christian. If we still dont know much more about the Bible or theology than we did 30, 20, or 10 years, or even 5 years ago, were not a Christian. Why? Because if we were, then wed constantly progress in our faith. One of the marks of spiritual maturity is soundness in faith and knowledge of Scripture and doctrine. If theres a person who says theyve been a Christian for several years, but they constantly act in ways that contradict Scripture and say things Scripture never says and are truly lacking in Scriptural knowledge, then they have not been a Christian for several years. We must not fall victim to American Evangelicalism, to this postmodern culture. We must examine ourselves. Are we Christians? Or are we frauds? How do we know? Do we show Biblical evidence? What is the Biblical evidence? Do we even know what that Biblical evidence is? Do we even know where in the Bible to find it? Knowledge of Scripture and theology and church history is not for pastors - pastors have that knowledge, yes, but the difference is that pastors lead the church and teach. If we are a Christian, and have been one for several years, then we should have a depth of Scriptural and Biblical knowledge and our actions should represent our submission to it. If we dont have legitimate Scriptural knowledge, and if our actions are not submitted to it, then we are not Christians. Period. Reading our Bible, and Scriptural knowledge, and good works do not lead to salvation. But salvation, by definition, leads to reading our Bible, having Scriptural knowledge, and doing good works. This is why if we are not doing these things, then we dont have salvation. #examineourselves #repent #reform
