This time of year, what I miss most is crafting/performing a Halloween show. There have been others [ASYLUM, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA], but the one most traditional to me is DRACULA. Ive scripted three versions; a Trevor-Nunn-NICHOLAS-NICKLEBY version that was ridiculously true to Stoker, a fantasia on... which posited possession by a specific dæmonic entity called nosferatu and which featured an abridgement of the Roman Ritual prior to the staking of Lucy -- pre-Coppola, he added, and a present-day sendup which ended with the vampires winning the day, er, night. Also played Renfield in another. I miss that routine, of getting to play dress-up-and-scare-the-stew-out-of-folks in honor of the season. Far better than trick-or-treating ever was. To all of you who went into these Halloween worlds with me, you have my love and my thanks this time of year, every single year. You know who you are, my dear lot of Hommy-Begs {the names are unmentioned to protect the privacy of the Un-Dead}. I love you all.
