Clarke is quoted as saying: ” Either we are alone in the universe, or not ! Either thought is equally frightening ! “ If we are not alone, I can hazard some guesses as to why that can be frightening. I certainly can remember back in the late forties (even before then), fifties, and sixties how popular it was for writers of the pulp magazines to expand upon this easily purveyed fear in imaginative tales of aliens from outer space. But it is singular that he contrasts, us being alone in the universe as equally frightening. Now, this, he may not have been fully aware of, is an acknowledgement of an accompanying anxiety man enters into this earthly existence with. Especially upon contemplating the existence of God. This is a man who embraced mystical religions of the East. It has always frightened man to begin to ponder the why to for of existence. Especially to do so from a singular perspective. Man’s perspective. I submit that man is born intuiting his broken state, flawed, because he is minus the Spirit of God. Christ is the light that lighteth every man that enters into the world , they are without excuse, having this little luring light which sparks thought, and questioning. However it is this intuited truth that he runs away from. And it is this action (running away) which demonstrates how frightening is the truth of us being alone in the universe. The intuiting of this chasm in man leads him to seek out purpose, and direction.They are questing for value, because they are adjudged valueless by the absence of the Life of God within. They look for it in celebration, like a film star, or even like a Lawrence of Arabia (greatly received by another culture). They look for it in fortune. They look for it in religions of other lands when having grown up in the hypocrisy of those representing the faiths they grew up with. Friend, I’m going tell you right now, that there is no other faith on the face of this earth that has the foundation necessary for enabling one to logically place this plight of man and malady into its true light, and correct perspective. Now, you know what ? Man needs his own story. IE Drama. Because his frame cannot support the truth. And so, yes, all the Roswell enthusiasts, and all the expectant ones who search the skies do enlist the aid of another story. One tailored by his need for value identity that will embellish his role for this lie, this system of values promulgated by the drama of this existence. One that offers no reminders of the intuited brokenness within. The first step is the hardest for man, to acknowledge the dread which is the herald of his true broken state.
