This was written by: David Doud Great piece and is the state of business today........ Amazing - briefly read your piece called How Customers Really Think About Insurance and found the document believable, however just today I was speaking to one of my colleagues about how unprofessional the insurance industry is today. I worked 17 years in this glorious business and did extremely well. The reason my clients respected me over their attorneys and accountant’s was because how I presented myself and the industry, the insurance contract. Yes contract, agreement but I never referred to a policy. Agents/brokers do not understand that they are selling dollars to be delivered at an unknown time in the future and the acquisition of those dollars are at a deep discount …… a few cents for a dollar. No banker, no lawyer, no accountant or stock broker can do what an agent/broker can do with insurance. No other industry can claim being in business for over 150 years, no industry uses unilateral contracts. No industry delivers at the time when money is needed most ……. This brings us to the term “insurance poor”, what this term implies; I’m paying for to much insurance, what it really means …… I did not have enough coverage, I’m busted because I did not pay attention to my agent/broker or I just did not think I needed the coverage it won’t happen to me. I sold the contract, I sold the value and I sold why we did the transaction. This is a business transaction, you did $100,000,000.00 of coverage, and you just did a $100,000,000.00 “DEAL”! NOW ACT LIKE IT!
