This week 8W have hit the Fingal Valley. Starting at the nearby Aberfoyle property the weather gods have shined upon them, offering beautiful clear but cool days in which to enjoy the many spoils of the Year 8 ‘Odyssey’. Wednesday saw the continuation of the new Indigenous Cultural Awareness Day that focuses on various aspects of indigenous Tasmania including, traditional water craft building, shell necklaces, post settlement history and the black war, and bush foods and bush food culture. These are presented by some amazing aboriginal elders and experts in their fields. 8W Indigenous Day culminated in a taster banquet of sustainable, impact free, traditional fares including home baked bush seed breads, native spinach and seed tart, wallaby fillet and sausage cooked with native spices and served with a native pepper berry gravy and wallaby tail soup. All were very well received and provoked some deep thought into our choices of food and food miles. Congratulations to all of 8W for their open mindedness and willingness to embrace the opportunities offered during this day. Well done to our Year 10 leaders assisting 8W for the week; Paige Kroon, Mackenzie Archer, Henry Yunk and Susie Love.
