This week Councilman Buscaino introduced eight motions that aim at helping residents who are tired of their rutted roads and buckled sidewalks. The series of motions is intended to increase revenue, cut costs and maximize efficiently. These motions come on the heels of an audit by controller Ron Galperin. The audit said that the Bureau of Street Services kept incomplete records, failed to collect hundreds of millions of dollars and, in some cases, didnt spend the money it had. With these eight motions introduced by Joe Buscaino, residents could have more control over the repairs of their streets, and the city would be able to cut its costs and increase their efficiency. The people want their government to work well, and they want their leaders to work together. They will reward good management and smart fiscal policies by approving revenue measures at the ballot box: the recent passage of the state water bond is proof of that, said Buscaino. A proposal unveiled by Councilman Joe Buscaino at a City Council meeting Wednesday asks city budget officials to draw up plans for beautification assessment districts, which would give residents the option of taxing themselves to pay for adjacent road, sidewalk and curb repairs, writes the LA Times.
