This week I caught up with one of the young people who had been at Fairbridge over eight years ago. He had been through our programs but had left early to get a cash job. He is now involved in the justice system and I could see from his health that he has had or does have a major drug issue in his life. I am always left with the question as to what could we have done differently to support this young person that would have led to a sustainable change in their life ? Fairbridges sign of success, and we have many, is not the young person going through one of our programs but 4 or 5 years after they have left Fairbridge they still living a positive sustainably changed life. If they are not then we need to pause and reflect and ask the question what could we have done better in giving them a hand up to have brought that sustainable change?. We are committed to 100% success and while we know that it is ultimately the persons choice to make the most of opportunities provided we always need to be learning and continually improving the way we give the hand up to ensure we can truly bring about positive sustainable change for 100% of the young people we work with.
