This week has brought a since of normalcy back into Bethany and our lives. She went back to school on Tuesday and even stayed after today for Battle of the Books and fiddle lessons! Even though she is not able to straighten her leg, still has pain and tires easily she insisted she was going to school. In my heart I wished this was going to continue but I knew our new normal was just beginning. The National Institute of Health and National Cancer Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland, contacted us today. We were informed that Bethany is not officially in the trial until their own testing is completed. The first 2 days will consist of Bethany undergoing heart studies, CT and PET Scans as well as full blood workups. The plans are made and we leave on November 5th and plan to stay through the 15th. We are thankful our family and friends will be here, staying at our house, providing love and support to Rachel and Anna. Our form of travel is yet to be determined but we are looking into all the options and praying for what will be best. She will have to see the doctor here in Asheville for needed lab work and another surgery to have a port-a-cath inserted, all needed before we arrive at the NIH. The first two days will be spent doing the testing and if she is approved she will have her first infusion on November 8th. She will be monitored closely for any side effects. We have yet to spell all of this out to Bethany. Please pray for us to have Gods wisdom on when and how to give her the information and that she will have the peace of God, knowing she rest in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior! We continue to be humbled by the out pouring of support from family, friends, community, new friends and others we do not know personally! We thank the Lord for His many blessings! With much love, Kelly, Steve, Rachel, Anna and Bethany
