This week in Dan Bracken says I dont generally make non sauce related statements on facebook but having read the interview between gene Simmons and his son describing rock as dead I have to say something in case any of my good friends take on board the shite he is spraying straight out of his arse. His notion of rock - getting signed touring being chased down the street by horny groupies and getting plastered for months on end all getting killed by the internet and file sharing leaves out one small thing. The music. The famous rock and roll lifestyle is a secondary thing a side effect to the music, Ive met countless ejits over my life who live the lifestyle but havent a note in their heads. Ive met straight laced blue and white collar workers that rock harder than plenty of tattoo sleeved pompous rock star wanabees who couldnt play a show to save their lives. Gene Simmons reckons we shouldnt bother to learn the guitar because theres no chance of making it, well news to him he got got lucky theres plenty of bands that were around the same time as kiss who surely didnt make it to the level kiss did but , I have no doubt in my mind they had the best times of their lives playing on stage with their friends to their friends , or not to their friends and sharing their music with strangers. To gene Simmons and any one else who thinks like he does I say shove it up your arse and try and remember that the money in your bank came from people listening to your music and going to your shows , some appreciation you are showing to them by recommending that they and their musician friends throw away their instruments because they will never make it to your level. Rock and music alike is a different arena with the rise of the internet but you cant download the buzz smell taste excitement joy euporea and fulfillment of going to or playing a great show or putting the final stamp on a album of your own music. Rock is dead ? Youve forgotten what rock and music alike is and it will never be dead as long as there are musicians around to play it. Peace, rock on and pick that instrument back up
