This week we have been audience to not one but TWO open mic (or cellphone) gaffes. One, the owner of the LA Clippers makes disgusting and inappropriate remarks that clearly characterize him as a racist. Then, our Secretary of State, John Kerry made some similarly disgusting remarks associating the nation of Israel with apartheid, remarks that at least to my mind, clearly identify him as antisemitic. Both expressed their apparent true despicable feelings in a context where they didnt think their words would be heard by anyone besides those in the immediate area. Both speeches have now gone viral. It is amazing to me that certain bigoted foul remarks dont sound as bigoted and foul TO SOME as they do to others. The NBA came down hard (justifiably) on Sterling. Even the president found time in his schedule to remark on the Clippers owner matter. Yet he, and the media are strangely silent on John Kerry. I say a $2.5M fine (given to Jewish charities) and ban for life from politics sounds reasonable.
