This weekend is the 23rd Doors Open Day event in Edinburgh with over 100 buildings open to the public that you wouldnt normally get the chance to see. One of these is Lothian Buses Central Depot in Annandale Street. Constructed in 1922 as Edinburgh’s Industrial Exhibition Hall the building has a long and interesting history hosting many large national shows in the 1920s, including the Scottish Motor Show and Edinburgh’s Christmas Fun Fair. The building became a bus garage in 1926 and was extended in 1933 and 1963 to accommodate the ever expanding fleet of buses. On Saturday, 27 September, the Lothian Buses Depot will be open for everyone to visit between 12pm and 4pm. As well as guided open top tours of the depot giving the history of the building and company, there will be lots for families and enthusiasts to see and do ( have a look at our floor plan for the event). A display of new and vintage buses will sit alongside entertainment for children such as a bouncy castle, face painting and the opportunity to walk underneath a double deck bus! You will also have the chance to pick up some unique bus memorabilia for a donation to the Lothian Buses Charity of the Year, The Yard and find out more about the work that they do. Following the announcement of a partnership between Edinburgh Capitals and Transport for Edinburgh, the local ice hockey team will be at the event from 1300-1400 to pose for photos and give information on the exciting tickets offers for Ridacard holders. Share your thoughts and photos on the day through twitter and facebook using the hashtag #BusSpot. Lothian Buses would love to see them.
