This weeks artist in the collections is... Kira Kalondy! Nature and family are great inspiration and influence in my work, both human being and nature share the natural characteristics of procreation, fertility, and multiplicity… My work represents the way I perceive my surroundings; it is a representation of my everyday experiences. They represent my interaction and observation of nature, and my communication with other individuals. I attempt to capture life through dramatic profiles in my work. Like the futurist sculpture by Umberto Boccioni Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, I work in broken planes to reveal incompletely defined forms symbolizing the moving energy of the human body caused by interaction with other individuals, nature, air, light, and the environment. (artist statement from kirakalondy) Kalondy received a Museum Studies Certificate from Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches, TX in 2012 and her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2009. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Indiana State University. Images: “Spores,” 2011, glazed earthenware.
