This week’s Staff Devotion is from Ministry Assistant Robyn Griffith. Robyn shared with us many of the thoughts and devotions from the recent College Girls/Young Women’s Retreat. The one that resonated most to Robyn was from James 4:13-15, “13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” Robyn is at that point in life where she’s trying to plan her future – seminary studies, ministerial career, life. And, thankfully, she realizes that God is in control. While there may be her “big plan”, there is always God’s plan. Robyn realizes that she needs to guard herself from HER big dreams and try really, really hard to make sure they are in line with HIS big plans for her. She’s learning what we all should learn (but find so hard to practice) – start with, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
