This week’s meditation from Bishop Houck, Catholic Extension - TopicsExpress

This week’s meditation from Bishop Houck, Catholic Extension President Emeritus: Christians intent on loving God and following Jesus Christ believe in the necessity and the value of prayer. We can pray anywhere. We know that Jesus sometimes spent all night in prayer. What an example of making prayer time a priority in his life and ministry. Saint Paul tells us that all we do or say should be done for the honor and glory of God. Recently I saw a banner with the phrase: “Prayer is stepping into the presence of God”. Many people at times try to get near or into the presence of heroes, popular people, entertainers and sports stars. What a privilege to step into the presence of our loving, compassionate God, the One who loves us more than anyone else in the world. Living in the presence of God is prayer. Saints have called prayer “Wasting time with God”. Given human nature and our media culture these days we might waste a lot of time doing all sorts of things. Why not “waste” some time in prayer? In our prayer life we ask God for our needs but as we better encounter Jesus we try to spend more time listening and not just rattling off words. How is our conversation and listening these days in the presence of one who cares about us and wants us to know it? Bishop William R. Houck
