This whole issue of revenue loss to the Federal Government is really pissing me off. For decades now there has been enormous environmental disaster in the Niger Delta, life expectancy is lowest in the region, livelihoods have been destroyed and since the UNEP report (two years ago) on the Ogoniland, nothing has been done. And there are other places which just like Ogoni are ecological disasters, yet no one is doing anything thing about it, but right now everyone is shouting revenue loss due to oil theft. If only we can quantify (monetary terms) the environmental loss, maybe we would appreciate the problem. And that is why to those community folks, "they do not give a damn" if the Government losses everything, cos it translates into nothing for them whether the Government gains or losses.
