This will be a long post, but its for a great cause. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 17 years ago. This disease is a silent killer if left untreated. It took two trips to the hospital for me last summer to realize a life style change was VERY necessary to stay alive. Therefore, today I am announcing my candidacy to enter the local Kiss-A-Pig contest. The Charleston Gold Dome Lions Club is sponsoring its 15th Kiss-A-Pig Program this fall. This event is held to increase public awareness, encourage prompt diagnosis with proper treatment, and to raise funds for continued research to help find a cure for this disease. In 1921 it was discovered that pigs were a source of insulin. The American Diabetes Association loves the pig so much for the total sacrifice of its pancreas it holds the KAP every year in honor of this fine animal. The vote getting campaign will begin on October 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the Charleston YMCA. Each $1 tax deductible contribution to the KAP Program represents 1 vote. The candidate with the most votes has the privilege of kissing a live pig on November 8 at 3:00 p.m. again at the Charleston YMCA. If each of you reading this message would donate $5 or more, you can assist me in achieving this tremendous honor. Your votes/contributions should be sent in a check or money order and made payable to Kiss-A-Pig Program. Be sure to put my name in the memo section so the votes will be counted for me. The checks/money orders are to be mailed to: Kiss-A-Pig Program PO Box 2385 Charleston, WV 25328 Please dont hesitate to tell you family and friends to cast their votes for me too. I am very confident that with your support by 3:15 on November 8 Ill have a BIG smudge of red lipstick on my pucker upper. My sincerest thanks in advance to all who can participate.
