This will be in tomorrows New York Times. One line from the piece to consider: Perhaps the most significant conclusion is a simple validation: Timely conservation action really does work, even for species that have reached alarmingly low numbers. We are accustomed to doom and gloom when it comes to the fate of species who share this planet with us. There are lots of reasons to feel as if it is hopeless but, in fact, it is not a done deal, necessarily. We sometimes use that hopeless feeling to justify our selfish actions but we shouldnt. Thanks, John Fitzpatrick, for writing this opinion piece. I wish Id known passenger pigeons.
