This will be my only commentary regarding all of these news about Robin Williams death which to me is just a mirror the current realities we have. 2 weeks after Yolanda, a Danish volunteer who is also a Social Worker intern in Cebu told me that social problems in 1st World countries are so different from ours in the Philippines, a 3rd world. They deal with depression, anxiety and other individualistic problems like social identity. This they have despite that they have the best government social services available like free education, medical insurance and to our standards, safe and clean living conditions. In the Philippines, we deal with poverty, high educational and medical cost & poor infrastructure. But despite these plus the natural disasters we encounter every year, we manage to smile, get up, laugh and make light of the situation thats because Filipinos have this innate personal connections with family and friends wherever they are in the world. In an ideal world, it would have been good to have the best of both, but our ideal is what we have now. So lets focus on what we have and make the most of it rather than bicker about things without any positive action.
