This wont mean anything to most people, but seeing the old refinery stack being demolished (Mt. Pleasant,TX - my hometown) was a little sad to see. When I was a pre-schooler (notice how I avoided saying When I was a little ... or young...or a kid? I am not quite ready to sound like Father Time...but I digress) we lived in Marshall, Tx. When we would drive to MP to visit my grandparents I would always look for The Refinery (aka the stack). When we came around a curve on the highway from Daingerfield you could see the stack, usually with a flame glowing on top. That let me know we were in MP. My grandfather worked at that refinery for many years until he retired. After we moved to MP I still knew I was home from whatever trip I had been on when I saw that stack. It wasnt pretty. It wasnt famous. But it was familiar and almost comforting in a way.
