This year, I am taking part in the 40 hour famine, where I give up - TopicsExpress

This year, I am taking part in the 40 hour famine, where I give up something I do every day or something I feel that I need to use everyday. I will be giving up the internet and food for 40 hours. Both of which are things that I LOVE. This year, World Vision - who run the 40 Hour Famine - are focusing their efforts on the Republic of Malawi; a small country that is landlocked by Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique. Right now, more than 1.9 million people in southern Malawi, in south-east Africa, don’t have enough food to eat. Unpredictable rainfall, coupled with drought, is hurting the crops in Malawi. Failing crops and dramatically rising food prices have millions trapped in a cycle of poverty. Children make up half of Malawi’s population and nearly 60 percent of them are living in poverty. Much of the soil has been degraded by deforestation and floods, so people have trouble growing enough food. Half the people living in these districts run out of food before the next harvest is ready. So many children might eat two meals on a good day, and none on a bad day. Can you imagine only eating three or four days in a week? Help me support children in Malawi and other disadvantaged countries in the 40 hour famine 2013. This year, I am giving up food and talking for 40 hours in the hope of raising $300. Optimistic an amount as it may be, I gotta keep my hopes up. You can donate here: 40hf.au/SeraRecanzone Be the change you want to see in the world, whether that be through taking part in the 40 hour famine yourself, or donating what you can to someone you know who is taking part. Thank you for reading! ~Ginny
