This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, which was signed into law by fellow Texan, Lyndon B. Johnson, in 1964. The act set aside 9 million acres of Americas most amazing places for federal protection. Today, that wilderness system has grown to include more that 110 million protected acres.
