This years Mass of the Holy Spirit at CHS will provide an extra special reason to celebrate -- V. Rev. John Cecero, S.J., the provincial of the New York Province of Jesuits, will preside. It will be his first trip to Western New York since Father Cecero was named provincial on Aug. 1. Before assuming his current role, the Philadelphia native had spent many years working in the mental health field. In fact, Father Cecero earned a PhD from George Washington University and led a thriving psychology practice in the past. In recent years, he had taught a number of courses at Fordham University. His most difficult work may be ahead of him, however. Father Ceceros role as provincial is a nationally important one as he will soon oversee the merger of the New York and New England provinces, part of the Society of Jesus’ ambitious realignment plan. The move is expected to take place in 2015. When the merger is complete, Father Cecero will lead a new province that encompasses eight states and is responsible for 14 secondary schools, nine colleges/ universities (including Canisius College), and several parishes.
