This year’s Independence Day celebration, for many Chicagoans a four-day respite in the land of the free, was for others an ordeal in a killing field. Violence tore through parts of the city from Wednesday night to Sunday night. Police and community sources said the bloodshed was driven by gang warfare, good weather, easy access to guns and a reluctance of witnesses and the victims to identify the shooters. Well, the media MUST mean easy "criminal" access to guns because Chicago makes access to guns very difficult for the law-abiding citizen. That might help to explain why nobody wants to talk. The good folks feel more threatened when only the bad guys have guns.
