Thomas Lauderdale reporting live on the scene: Coming out of Nordstrom two evenings ago, I noticed that the busker on the corner had a great voice. I went a few feet, then stopped and thought, Hes singing in Japanese! A few steps later, I said to myself Hes singing Ue o Muite Aruko - known in this country as Sukiyaki … Kyu Sakamotos big hit in 1963! Incredulous, I tipped him and waited for him to finish singing. I soon discovered his name is Shin Sasaki. Hes 25 years old and in the midst of a three-year bike ride around the world. Currently he is en route from Vancouver B.C. to Patagonia! And hes busking all the way! Yesterday, while scouting the best locations to busk, we ran into former Portland Mayor Sam Adams. And today, hes on SW Alder by the food carts, somewhere between 11th and 9th! Hell be there for the next hour or so, so join the Portland Welcome Wagon and go see him and tip him big!!
