Thor, our wonderful LGD, needs a new home. He is a calm, gentle giant with a strong protection trait. Our farm has shifted its focus a bit and we no longer have animals for him to protect, so he has taken to protecting the family and staff. Unfortunately, we have a lot of unsupervised visitors and cant have Thor loose. We have no interest in tying him up (that is not fair for a LGD). Today, his protection instinct kicked in and he decided a male customer should not be there. He, as LGDs do, singled him out and made him very uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this also involved him jumping up on him (he is as tall as a man on his hind legs :), and grabbing his arm. Wont say it was a bit or an attack, but he made his presence known. And .. he drew blood. (Nothing a band-aid didnt fix). On our farm, if a dog bites or is too aggressive he has to go. Tears will be shed, but customer safety first. Thor is free to a farm that needs a great LGD. He is great with the family, but protective when strangers are around. He would be perfect in a field of livestock. HE IS NOT A PET. Please contact me if you can give him a good home. I WILL NOT let him go as a pet. Farm dog only and in the role of an LGD. He has to find a home this weekend or I will have to put him down. If there was any aspect of this interaction he had with the customer that smelled like an attack, I would just put him down. It was not. He was doing his job. Protecting. Knowing Thor, drawing blood was unintentional. Does not change the facts, but had he attacked the outcome would have required more than a bandaid. Not trying to justify his actions, simply help a potent new owner understand how I saw the interact. He needs livestock to protect. My family does not need him to protect us from customers. Ill answer any questions that are posted in comments. Hope someone can put him to work.
