Though Im NOT a parent myself, I AM considered a minority in this country and have 52 years of personal experience when it comes to dealing with issues of diversity and societal ostracisism. And after reading the story of this young ladies suicide, and the familial ugliness that contributed to it, I feel compelled to share this conclusion: There comes a time when, as a parent, you must abandon ALL delusions of familial perfection, put the Bible and other forms of antiquated scripture down ... and embrace/deal with what lies in front of you. In other words, instead of living in fear of the neighbors or views of others, spend QUALITY time reinforcing in the minds of your children that NO MATTER what others may do or say... YOU will ALWAYS be there to support them, be THEIR best friend and sounding board and love them ... UNCONDITIONALLY! Again, I reinstate that I have NO CHILDREN of my own. However, if I did, it would be me and them against the world. You see, my mother is 76, my siblings and I are 52, 37 and35 (respectively) ... and this is the unwavering philosophy thats been in my family since the day I drew my first breath. And it works ...
